Abstract

This review addresses the difficult issue of perioperative infarction and ischemia in cardiac surgery. The perioperative period of cardiovascular surgery is a critical stage in which the diagnostic criteria for coronary artery disease cannot be applied using the usual guidelines. It is difficult to confirm the diagnosis of acute myocardial ischemia, and long-term prognosis of these patients remains unclear. Electrocardiographic and enzimatic changes as well as radionuclide imaging methods were analyzed. Although there is no "gold standard" for comparison, the electrocardiogram seems to have an important role in diagnosis of perioperative myocardial infarction and ischemia.
