Abstract

Late follow-up dataof 109 patients who had survived the right heart bypass operation were analyzed. No preoperative risk factors for this operation affected the postoperative follow-up results. The presence of significant postoperative atrioventricular regurgitation aggravated the late actuarial survival of the operative survivors. Total cavopulmonary connection seems to have better effect than atrio pulmonary connection on the late outcome of the operative survivors. It is concluded that the total cavopulmonary connection should be the surgical procedure of choice and concomitant treatment of atrioventricular regurgitation must be performed properly.
